Pohang Off-Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant

Pohang Off-Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant is the first ever to run on Finex off-gas generated from steelmaking process.

The off-gas power plant generates power by using off-gases produced in steelmaking process. It is an eco-friendly power plant providing a substitute for crude oil imports worth 57 billion won and reducing greenhouse-effect gases of 180,000 tons a year.

  • Fuel : BFG(Blast Furnace Gas), COG(Coke Oven Gas), FOG (Finex Off Gas)
  • Capacity : 290MW

Operation Principles for Off-gas Combined Cycle Power Plant

The Off-gas Combined Cycle Power Plant uses a method in which a gas turbine generates electricity in the initial cycle by combusting off-gas. Then the HRSG recovers the waste heat generated from the gas turbine and produces steam. The steam is then used to drive the steam turbine which generates power.
